Help Me, I'm an Addict
Yesterday I went to Farmer’s Market. Just the little one, mind you. It spans a whole city block and has, at most, 30 vendors. They sell flowers, plants, cheese, baked goods, produce, and some meat and eggs.
Last week I bought herbs and spent my Saturday morning planting those in both pots and the garden.
Apparently that wasn’t enough for me. Noooooo.
I realized at the end of Saturday that I still had 2 large faux-terra cotta pots I bought this spring. They are currently living a purposeless existence in my tool shed and it’s a sad, sad situation that needs to be rectified.
I also didn’t feel I had enough herbs and other vegetables for my herb garden and had to buy more.
I bought:
9 flowering plants for my gigantic planter
Furry Backyard Creatures
Last weekend I was loading A in the car and felt something squishy under my foot. I initially assumed I was stepping on a pile of semi-rotted helicopters. When I looked down it was a little gray rodent. Dead. Mostly intact. No obvious signs of what might have killed it except for the part about me stepping on it for a good 2 minutes.
We speculated briefly as to which of our kitties had been the mighty hunter and delivered us this grand prize. I assumed Clio because she is always trying to catch squirrels. Spike just wants to chase the neighborhood cats off his territory and shows no interest in other critters, rodentia or otherwise.
I HATE the Millenial Generation
This morning and last week Morning Edition on NPR ran employment segments about the “Millenials” who are entering the work place. The segment last week was infuriating and this one just reminded me of how pissed off I was last Wednesday morning.
Apparently these people need lots of rewards, encouragement, and general hand-holding by their supervisors. If they don’t feel their contributions are recognized and values, then they’ll leave in search of a more rewarding position.
From the NPR website:
Hot Sexy Reasons for Blogging
Ms. NoH tagged me with the reasons I blog meme thingy. Before I answer those I have to add some history:
Way back in 2002 (possibly earlier) Mike secured b___.org, his uncle owns b___.net and someone in the UK is squatting on b___.com (curse them!).
At that time Mike wrote a blog engine for me because all the cool kids had their own vanity domains and blogs and I wanted one, too.
comment spam
Grrr. If it happens again, I’m going to need to do something more serious about this comment spam. I may need to go back to requiring someone to actually be logged in to comment, but I’d like to avoid that if possible.
What’d be more annoying to our regular commenters? Required login, or one of those “type the distorted letters you see in the image” things?
Almost like Python
As you may have heard on the news, Hooters is expanding to Israel. From the Washington Post this morning:
And Thy Servant, Candi, Shall Cleave Unto Thee
Tuesday, March 20, 2007; C01
Hooters announced yesterday that it will open its first restaurant in Israel this year in Tel Aviv. This sign of the End Times was foretold thousands of years ago in a little-known addendum to the final book of the New Testament:
Rev. 23: 1-4
{+1}And from the West came a harlot She-Beast bearing plates of strange food: fried rings of onion and wings of bison.
{+2}And, verily I say unto thee, there also was in that place beer.
{+3}And the She-Beast had the eyes of a great owl that were painted with blue, and flaxen yellow hair that moved not when she did.
Some reading to do
Magician: Master (Riftwar Saga) author: Raymond E. Feist asin: 0553564935
Magician: Apprentice (Riftwar Saga) author: Raymond Feist asin: 0553564943
A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, Book 1) author: George R.R. Martin asin: 0553573403
I’ve got two new book series that I’ll need to find everything published for, which is good because I’ve been looking for something new to keep my interest.
The first is the Song of Ice and Fire, by George R. R. Martin. I’ve read the first book, A Game of Thrones, and must read more. Multiple factions, no one is really evil or good (though there are some factions you’re supposed to like more than others), not being afraid to kill off characters, and a slow return of magic to the world. It doesn’t help that he ended the first book without really ending anything.
Take your pick...
If you’re blue and you don’t know where to go to
why don’t you go where fashion sits,
Puttin’ on the ritz.
Or, for those that remember this maddenly catchy song:
all i wanna do is to thank you
even though i dont know who you are
you let me change lanes
while i was driving in my car
or
Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you’re here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on
or
Iiiiiiiiiiiiiii’m sailiiiiiiiiiiing away
Set an open course for the virgin sea
cos I’ve got to be freeeeeeeeeeeeee…..
Whats your aural pain?
Share and enjoy!
New Music
We’ve got some new music for the first time in a while:
[amazon info B000KCHZK6]
(Norah Jones) Still enjoyable, but I haven’t decided if I like it as much as her previous albums
[amazon info B0009OL808]
(Fountains of Wayne) Quite good, though be warned that these songs are almost guaranteed to get into your head and stay a while. Includes a surprisingly good cover of “…Baby One More Time” that should not be missed, if only to hear a good version of that song
[amazon info B000CS4L1E]
(Neko Case) The best of this batch. I’ve heard her described as alt-country, which I suppose is about the best fit, if one were forced to choose a genre.
[amazon info B000GG4XCO]
(Hellogoodbye) This one is just fun. Guitar and a bit of a They Might Be Giants feel.
