Garden update
Earlier this summer I planted some food-bearing plants and hoped for the best.
I did a half-assed job of mixing in nutrient rich topsoil and some fertilizer. For a long time, it looked like nothing would actually grow. Finally one day I had basil and parsely and mint. Then I had a couple peppers growing early. I plucked one of the peppers and used it in salsa. It wasn’t terribly hot, but it was tasty.
Now I have little green tomatoes sprouting on the vines, and eggplants and a whole mess ‘o jalapeno peppers. The potted plants – banana, hot red, and green peppers are flowering like crazy. It’s amazing! I’m.Growing.Real.Food!
HP and the DH
I didn’t go the bookstore at midnight. Late Saturday morning we strolled into Target, turned left, and practically walked into a display of the books.
All too easy and so much less angst than staying up all night.
Then we drove up north for a family picnic and I read the book. For the first time in my life I didn’t get carsick reading a book. I got 300 pages into it before we switched drivers so that I could navigate to the family picnic site in Turtle Lake.
I finished the book at about midnight last night. I sleepily decided that i needed to re-read the last few chapters when I was more coherent. So I did when we got home this afternoon.
Spying On Your Friends and Neighbors dot Com
I love the internet and the free flow of information. Tonight Mike told me to visit MGE.com and click on the energy usage link. Simply type in an address and bam! you can see how much energy a house uses. It gives very general information like High, Low and Average usage of Gas and Electricity for the last 12 months.
IT LIVES!!!!!!!!!!
Last night I had Abba’s Super Trouper pop into my head and since I hadn’t actually ripped the entirety of Abba Gold I pulled out the CD and apologized to Mike in advance.
Tonight the Super Trouper lights are gonna find me
Shining like the sun (Sup-p-per Troup-p-per)
Smiling, having fun (Sup-p-per Troup-p-per)
Feeling like a number one
This morning it was still rattling around in my head and I decided to save my sanity I’d rip it and pull it and a few more Abba songs on my blank sob iPod.
Pushing Buttons on my iPod
I was tired today. At first I couldn’t sleep because I itched. Then at 12:30 am Adam came upstairs wet. Despite the fact that I was sitting next to my bedroom door reading a book and had the light on, my little sad, wet sleepwalker walked right into our closed bedroom door. thunk
I carried him downstairs, changed him, changed his sheets, tucked him in and went back to my scratchy chair and my damp, rough towel. 30 minutes later Adam come back upstairs, this time coming straight to me instead of straight into a closed door. “mommy i need you.” I try to convince him to go sleep in my spot on the bed. He goes to look and comes back a few minutes later. “Daddy’s there,” he tells me. Daddy, it seems, has sprawled in my absence.
Aaaaaaagh!!!!! <scratch, scratch, scratch> Aaaaagh!!!!!!!
Saturday afternoon I took Adam to the Goodman Pool for some swimming fun. Foolishly, I waited until I got to the pool to put on my sunscreen. I could only reach so far down my back and wound up with SUNBURN on areas that haven’t seen the sun in ages. And the dumbest tan-line ever. ugh.
Saturday night Mike was gone and I called someone to come over and spray me with Aloe. Sunday it REALLY HURT. Monday I stayed home from work to avoid having to put a bra on over the blistered areas.
Last night it started to ITCH with a vengeance. I managed to get it to stop itching and was able to get about 4 hours of sleep.
Cat and Mouse
Friday evening Spike delivered his humans another mouse, lovingly dropped in front of our side door.
This now makes mouse number 5 that our intrepid hunters have delivered to us.
On the one hand, it’s completely disgusting and repulsive to find dead rodents around the house. On the other hand, our kitties are doing exactly what cats have done for millenia — prevent rodent infestations.
At this rate, we’ll have over 20 dead rodentia by the end of the summer. I only wish that we had some sort of other predator we could feed the dead mice to and not have them stinkin’ up the garbage can in the hot sun.
