My heart just died a little...

I’ve got Overheard in New York and Overheard in the Office (warning, sometimes language on those sites may be Not Safe For Work) on my Google Reader list, and they bring a chuckle once in a while.

This, on the other hand… I could feel my arteries clogging just reading:

What you do is you split the Krispy Kreme in half and grill it, then put the cheeseburger on it, and I swear, it’s the best way to have it.

Ugh. Does anyone have the number of a cardiologist?

Bad Books

Recently we went to the Public Library and I checked out 3 books. I have already finished two of them and the nicest thing I can say about them is “At least I didn’t pay for them.”
The first one, “The Last Templar” by Raymond Khoury was pretty disappointingly predictable with a horrible ending. HORRIBLE ENDING. I’m still annoyed that I wasted a few hours of my life reading it.
The other book was “The Christmas Train” by David Baldacci.
I would say “Worst Author Ever,” but after what I read about the hack who cobbled together the book behind this monstrosity of a holiday movie called Eragon, I’m pretty sure that that guy is the worst author ever. Baldacci merely sucks without elevating it to an artform. He has taken “foreshadowing” to a new low. How does this guy get published with writing like this? I don’t know if all his books are this formulaic, but wow, I was blown away at the suckitude of the book. Of course I finished the damned thing because I hate not finishing a book, but wow, it really sucked.

Cookie Baking Party

Saturday afternoon we got together at my in-laws house for a Christmas Cookie baking party. We had 4 children present at first, although tiny little baby E slept like a champ through most of the mayhem and little C. went home with daddy after a couple hours. The boys, hopped up on sugar, were a surprisingly well behaved force of nature, right up until they were surrounded by more baked cookies than any child should ever be subjected to. (pics to come later)
I think a good time was had by all and we came away with some awesome cookies:
Biscotti, Spritz, Gingerbread, Peanut butter chocolate kiss, chocolate sugar cookies, spice cookies, bourbon balls, egg-nog roll-out cookies…

In Exile

I’ve been unemployed since November 30th at roughly 4:00pm.
That’s 16 days, 6 hours. I’ve been to job interviews, conducted phone interviews, scheduled yet more phone interviews, written countless cover letters, uncovered new job boards for Madison and still haven’t had a stroke of luck. Today’s interview with the State of WI was an unmitigated disaster.

At least Adam is enjoying his time home with me and I get to sleep in a bit for now. Oh well, hopefully the next couple of weeks will bring better luck and we can all get back to our regularly scheduled routines.

Or Why Little Adam Can’t Count…

Thus spoke Adam:
one…tew…free…four…five…sisx…seben…eight…nine… eleven..twelve…firteen…fifteen..nineteen…eleventeen..

Curious…
Did you notice that, too?

No matter how many times we correct him and say no, Adam, nine TEN eleven, he automatically reverts to nine…eleven
Yep, 9-11.
Somehow (could it be through the perverted national dialogue focusing on fear-mongering?) 9-11 has been beaten into our national consciousness so much that an innocent pre-schooler doesn’t even think the number 10 even exists between 9 and 11. Curse you George “my legacy is 9/11” Bush!

Amy made me do it --- but it's not me!

L'inverno est arrivé

It snowed on Friday — we got a decent amount of snow around here to actually cover up the grass and leaves and make it look like winter. It’s… nice and wintery.

Yesterday while Mike was off gaming I took Adam to Olin Park (twice!) to see the Festival of Lights and then we went to Target and ToysRUs in search of a sled and kid-sized snow shovel. Despite the fact that the Subaru was reporting to me a frigid 11F, we had a great time. The lights were pretty and Adam was excited about this sledding thing. I didn’t know how to explain what sledding was so I looked it up on YouTube so he could get the idea. I can’t tell if that’s sad or an appropriate use of modern technology to solve small problems. Besides — he enjoyed earlier the squirrel cam videos on YouTube, why not sledding, too?
