A Long Days Germy Into Night

May 30, 2006 - 9:15am

Everyone in our household is infected with something. Late last week through this weekend Adam and I had sutffy unpleasant runny noses. Last night at 3:30 I was awakened to consumptive, hacking, coughing Mike. This also awakened poor Adam who suddenly needed (but didn’t get) cocoa. I’ll be the first to admit our diet has been somewhat devoid of good nutrition since we moved back to Wisconsin. And Adam is being exposed to whole new germs every day at daycare. This however, is ridiculous. We’ve all had trips to the doctor and anti-biotics (2 ear infections, 1 pink-eye.)
I’m convined our low immune system is related to stress and chaos.

Music Recommendation (Guilty Pleasure)

The other night we were watching the season finale of Scrubs which has managed to introduce several good songs to me. As an aside, once again Scrubs won’t start up again until January, damn you NBC.
Anyway, there was some little subplot about a Neil Diamond concert and they played a Neil Diamond song that I’d never remembered hearing before, but I really liked.
Yep, you heard it here first. I actually enjoy Neil Diamond’s music. So today I googled the show and Neil Diamond to find the song. Apparently last year he released an album called 12 Songs which includes a track called Delirious Love. I previewed the rest of the album on iTunes and decided to buy the whole album.

All Alone At Home (with Adam)

This morning at the extremely early hour of 4:30am I drove Mike and Amy to the airport for the purpose of attending a friend’s wedding in Miami. Even though Mike didn’t get to go home and go back to bed for a couple hours, I’m going to complain about how tired I am anyway. I need a nap and I sincerely hope Adam is tired tonight becaues I’m going to want to go to bed early.

I’m not used to Mike being away. The week we spent apart while we were moving was weird enough. This one is harder because he’s in Miami having fun and its warm and sunny and pretty there. That, and the house is lonely with him gone and Adam is confused when Daddy is away.

Things that seem like a good idea

You’re short on cash, you need food for lunch. Your local big box super store has TV dinners on sale for 99 cents.
How bad could a Banquet fried chicken with mashed potatoes and corn really be?
Gag-a-licious.
At least, I console myself, the majority of the advertized 450 calories are in the wastebasket and not my stomach. Ugh.

People keep asking me how I like Madison, or if I miss DC or if I think it was a good idea to move.
I like Madison fine, it’s a nice city, houses are (relatively) cheap, my commute is short, family is close. The weather for May has sucked and I could use some warm weather to dry out my sinuses and help my ear infection clear up. I think if we could enjoy our evenings and weekends more, it would be nice. This bad weather just needs to clear up.

Birthday Update

As it turns out, the evening portion of my birthday was very nice.
My inlaws took Mike, Adam and I out for a very nice birthday dinner at Edo – a Japanese hibachi steakhouse over on Monona drive. Very tasty. Mike’s sister ordered hibachi tofu, something I was skeptical of until I tasted it. I don’t know that I’d want an entire meal centered around tofu, but that was pretty good.
Adam, of course, loves the fire and the action and the noise. He even managed to feed himself Miso soup, noodles, rice and vegetables without significant mess. He did make a big mess with the red-bean ice cream which was quite tasty.

Crappy Birthday To Me..

May 12, 2006 - 6:09pm
Submitted by kirstin on May 12, 2006 - 6:09pm.

I have an ear infection that kept me awake most of last night.
It’s unseasonably cold for mid-May (currently 45F)
Our house just isn’t selling.
Our landlords who previously said we could go month-to-month sent us a lease renewal form for a year.
Ugh.

On the bright side, I’m going out for what I hope will be a nice dinner.

Happy birthday to me.

Adam's Adventures in Daycare

Today Adam helped Kindercare perform their monthly mandatory fire drill.
Yep, he pulled the fire alarm. Having never pulled one, I don’t know if it is hard to do or not.
I don’t know any of the other details, but I wish I could have seen it.

Yesterday Adam and I were in the car going to that trainwreck of a grocery store — Woodmans. (As a funny aside, the LAST time I was in Woodmans was Dec 31, 1999 buying liquor and fixin’s for my favorite sneaky-bitch punch. Later that evening, I met Adam’s father.)
Anyhoo, on the way to Woodmans Adam says “we will rock Yoooouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!”
Huh?
