Perpetually, I live in SimCity

If I were a copycat I’d carry a digital camera with me everywhere like SaraNoH and regale my readers with pictures from my daily life.
Sadly, I never remember to have a camera except for the crappy one on my cell phone. The one we do own is big and old and awkward to carry around. Also, given my luck with cell phones, I’d probably lose it anyway.

Everything around me is perpetually under construction though. In Virginia it was like I was surrounded by perpetual low and mid-density residential and commercial development. I used to assume that if I modelled a Sim city game based on my daily experiences in NoVA, my citizens would leave and my game would collapse, or i’d have it destroyed by Godzilla and tornadoes before everyone could leave — no sense in delaying the inevitable.

This made me laugh out loud.

The Odyssey of Kirstin's New Motorola Phone

As promised, I will related the odyssey of my Cingular Motorola phone which ended with Mike wiping it down with a Clorox wipe.
Wednesday I got on the wrong bus. I was in a hurry to get home, but was playing solitare on my phone and noticed a bus pull up. Thinking it was one to get me home (since so many get me home) I hopped on, only to realize that I didn’t know where Greenbush was (definitely not near home), but that it would go by Breeze Terrace. I hopped off on Breeze and Old U. Ave and called Mike imploring him to pick me up somewhere along the way and then headed west.
Eventually I stopped at the Open Pantry(Thank You, PAID) to use the rest room, call Mike back, and buy a blue Icee. Somewhere around here I either dropped my phone or left it on the counter at the Open Pantry.

Springtime in Madison

Well, we’ve all been here in Madison for over a whole week now. Adam has settled nicely into his daycare and has picked up a cold and delivered it straight to his parents.
I feel like someone has beaten me with a baseball bat and then inflated a balloon in my head. Everything hurts — Adam tries to tickle me, it hurts. I roll over in bed, it hurts. I’m home from work today, but am working sporadically using the lovely VPN.

The shame of all of this is that our house is still mostly unpacked and boxes, packing tape and bubble-wrap are in every single room. We at least have a functioning kitchen now and can eat food that hasn’t been delivered to us.

Reflections on Moving and Motherhood

Our stuff arrived on Monday afternoon with (so far) everything in one piece EXCEPT for the picture that Mike or RYan or Ryan packed which got broken because of bad packing.
I haven’t actually opened up my glass kitchen boxes, and I’m slightly afraid to and I have to have living room space before I can start on my kitchen. All of this should happen this weekend when we have large blocks of time to unpack, repack and organize. Amy and Luke helpfully came over the other night to take pictures and laugh at our chaos. I’m sure one of them will have pictures of our disaster posted shortly.

Our house in VA is still up for sale (after a WHOLE week). The downside to this is, of course, that it doesn’t even make sense for us to look at houses here since we have no money to buy another one. The upside is that we have a lease through Aug 31st and I’d hate to transfer my mortgage from one place to another with 4 more months.

Move Update

Well, we’re all here in Madison. Safe in one place and all together.

Adam arrived Saturday afternoon with his grandparents. Mike arrived late Saturday night with 2 very tired kitties emitting some sort of strange trapped-in-a-kennel-for-15-hours kitty funk. We spent Sunday shopping for necessities like the little rings that hold up shower curtains, a dish washing tray and things to hand wash dishes with (WE HAVE NO DISHWASHER!!!!!!)
Then we discovered that our washing machine is broken since it quit and refused to rinse and drain after the wash cycle.
We also discovered that our basement which was allegedly dry, is most certainly not since there was first a stream of water and now a pool in a quarter of our basement. An outside inspections says that once the gutters are cleaned and 5 bags of dirt are packed at the foundation to create a hill, we shouldn’t have any further flooding.
