The insanity here not so much on the overwhelming side
So, as Mike stated, I’m 900 miles away. Actually, it is only about 850 and Adam is up in Spooner being pampered by his grandparents. I’ve been staying with Luke and Amy while I wait for my furniture and Mike to arrive.
Our new rental house is small. I thought our old townhouse was small. Boy was I wrong. This house is small and a death trap when you leave the main level. The stairs up to the finished attic area are narrow and steep. If I had a size 5 foot, I might just be able to fit my foot on a stair. The basement stairs are less steep, but if you’re over 5’9” you’ll bang your head at the bottom. Luke also tells me that the insulation looks like asbestos.
Overwhelming Insanity
Yep. It’s crazy around here. I’m typing this on a borrowed laptop. In a few minutes I’ll go to sleep in a bed that’s not my own. All of my posessions are theoretically making their way to Madison on a truck or two, driven there by people who packed it up with all the trustworthy vibes of a used-car salesman and an organized-crime heavy1 all rolled into one.
Empty House
Kirstin’s driving tonight. I’m alone in the house with boxes to pack and two cats. It’s quiet and lonely. No Adam, no Kirstin, and the cats really aren’t great conversationalists.
The house has been feeling different for a few days now anyway… as if it knows it’s about to be empty.
Ok, now I’m creeping myself out. Time for bed.
Sleepy Ears
This morning, as with all weekday mornings, the radio goes on with NPR. During one of their sponsor announcements for some fuel company the announcer said “corn and seed oil to make biofuel”
My brain (and Mike’s) heard “porn and seed oil.”
Later on a news story about cloning I heard “An Afghan town blah blah blah… first cloned dog” I wondered briefly how a country that is barely held together by warlords and previously run by the Taliban, which seems anti-science to me, could have sophisticated cloning facilities. OOOOOOOH, Afghan HOUND.
I think I need more sleep.
Blasts from the Past
So in the spirit of cleaning things before the move AND avoidance of said task I was cleaning out my email today. I clicked into the folder called Mike and found all sorts of fun things including 368 emails from January 2nd 2000 to February 9th 2000. The emails end Feb 9th because 1)Ryan Donnelly was visiting 2)I was packing 3)I showed up on his doorstep 3 days later at 7:30am, after a 15 hr drive cross country with my clothes, computer, and Kitti (RIP). After reading through the early days of our relationship, it’s clear we were out of our minds. I’m sure there were a variety of reasons we were out of our minds, some may have been < cough > hormonal. But here we are anyway in our 7th year, married, with Adam, in our own house, in Virginia, on the verge of returning to Wisconsin. Funny how things turn out.
