HHGTTG

Well, we saw the Hitchhikers’ Guide to the Galaxy tonight.
It didn’t suck.
I’ll admit even though I KNOW that Radio Scripts, BBC Series, Video Game and Books have all been quite different, I wasn’t prepared for the differences here. (Note: Not all differences were bad!) Strangely, I quite enjoyed the “So Long and Thanks for All the Fish” singing and dancing dolphin montage at the beginning.
I probably haven’t read the books in 2-3 years, so I’m about due. I first read HHGTTG in 1986 after it was recommended it to me by the a guy who was the leader of the geek tribe at my high school. First Hitchhikers’ then Monty Python and Mel Brooks. I can trace my sense of humor taking a decidedly British bent from then on (Yes, I know Mel Brooks isn’t!). Kipp helped me get in touch with my inner unexplored nerd.
That was about 19 years ago.
Scary how time flies.
I can’t bear to think that I’m getting to be that old.

Today on Fark an article about Kentucky Hillbillies: who are pissed off about how A&E portrayed their lovely and progressive city.
The most telling quote in the whole article about pissed-off hillbillies was this:
“You start the piece by showing a rebel flag on Julius Avenue, an overweight man without a shirt smoking a cigarette and an old pickup with a few women in the back,” Blackburn said. “As I am sure you would agree, you can go to almost any city in America and find the same.”

Really?
Any City?

I lived in godforsaken Northern Wisconsin and never once observed this sort of behavior.
Clearly when you make a statement like that, you have to realize that you’ve proven the other side’s arguements.

Funniest thing I've heard in a while

Help me, OB-GYN, You’re my only hope.

Makes me want to have another baby just so I can be the world’s nerdiest mom in the delivery room.

Maybe I can buy one of those nifty light-sabres at Best Buy that make the whoosh, clash, bzziiiiiiiit noise. Then I shall pummel stupid anesthesiologists who neglect to correctly hook up my damn epidural.
