Guest Blogging from Mike
So, Kirstin says I should guest-blog about the weekend. It was great. She took me to Staunton, VA (pronounced “Stanton”, apparently) in the Shenandoah Valley. We saw The Compleat Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) at the Blackfriars Theatre in Staunton, put on by players from the Theatre at Lime Kiln. The play was excellent, and hilarious. I want to go back to that theatre to see some real Shakespeare during their regular season.
We also came across a small ren-faire and jousting tournament at Natural Chimneys Regional Park, where I managed to hit a target at archery and Kirstin decided she wants to get a costume and go in costume to another one.
Thanks, Kirstin, for a great weekend.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled Kirstin.
My own new business
I’m going to start making Certificates for people. This one I made for Ooks is AWESOME.
I’ll make one for anyone who wants.
I have a knack for the cheesy.
Yay me.
Happy Birthday Mike!
So today is Mike’s 24th birthday. Be sure to send him a birthday greeting, k?
I think I hate August. Hands down one of the worst months of the year.
- Too short because too soon school starts and you’re not ready for summer to be over
- Too LONG because you’re bored and school doesn’t start soon enough
- TOO DAMNED HOT. Electricity bill going through the roof
- REALLY. I’m Serious tooo god-damned hot all fucking month. Is that cat sweating?
- Even though you’re working and there is no school to start you know that in less than 30 days (or as of today, 2 weeks) summer will symbolically be at a close, so even if you wanted to go the beach, everything will be boarded up til Memorial Day.
- Tourists, god-damned Tourists EVERYWHERE and still more to come through Labor Day
- Kids everywhere. They’re bored, they’re hot, they’re annoying and they need structure
So this weekend I’m whisking Mike away for a birthday get-away. He doesn’t know where he’s going or whats in store for him, (evil cackle) but I know he’ll have a better time than we did in New York. There will be no walking 90 blocks in blistering August heat. Nope. Nothing of the sort.
Blah.
One more day...
I REALLY envy Europeans at this moment. I could do with 2 months vacation time every year. I am SO SICK OF WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everyone around me is taking/had taken a vacation. Do I get a vacation this summer? NOPE. Not a one. The aforementioned baby-explosion at work has meant that co-workers are out and vacations for Kirsti are not possible until after September.
Yuck.
On the bright side, Mike and I are going to New York Citythis weekend. We’ll see some museums, catch Into the Woods on Broadway, shop and generally not be anywhere near work or computers or TV or stuff.
Unfortunately, weekends aren’t nearly long enough. I say we move to a 36 hour week with a 2.5 day weekend. Everyone should be able to sleep in Monday morning!
Or maybe I could move to a nice picture-esque New England village, plant a garden and raise the kids while my husband takes the train into the City everyday for work……Also, I’m a valium addict.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHH!
Whats a girl to do when she’s got the mid-summer blahs? Back in the old days of going to school/college I’d just look forward to starting school again. Mmmm…. The nice smell of new books, clothes shopping, school supplies…
I think some days I hate being an adult. Its boring. Quick… give me suggestions on how NOT to be bored!
The winner gets a fresh box of Crayola Crayons – 64 count with built-in sharpener.
