Cat and Mouse
July 2, 2007 - 1:27pm
Friday evening Spike delivered his humans another mouse, lovingly dropped in front of our side door.
This now makes mouse number 5 that our intrepid hunters have delivered to us.
On the one hand, it’s completely disgusting and repulsive to find dead rodents around the house. On the other hand, our kitties are doing exactly what cats have done for millenia — prevent rodent infestations.
At this rate, we’ll have over 20 dead rodentia by the end of the summer. I only wish that we had some sort of other predator we could feed the dead mice to and not have them stinkin’ up the garbage can in the hot sun.
Make that 6 mice
Paging clean-up for emergency mouse removal!
Where's the follow through?
Why does a cat have the instinct and energy to chase and kill the critter – yet too spent/bored/petulant to actually eat it?
The cat that cleaned up their own mess, now that would be an animal worth having…
It's better they don't
My friend grew up on a farm and his cats actually hunted, killed at ate the rodents. I once saw a cute, cuddly, widdle kitten covered in blood from face to front paws because it was devouring a little mouse.
They didn’t feed their cats any sort of cat food, they got the occasional dish of milk from the bulk tank and that was it. If these barn cats wanted to survive, they ate mice.
As a human, I prefer my proteins come pre-wrapped in butcher paper or plastic, not still attached to the warm corpse. I imagine house cats feel much the same way.
