Perpetually, I live in SimCity
If I were a copycat I’d carry a digital camera with me everywhere like SaraNoH and regale my readers with pictures from my daily life.
Sadly, I never remember to have a camera except for the crappy one on my cell phone. The one we do own is big and old and awkward to carry around. Also, given my luck with cell phones, I’d probably lose it anyway.
Everything around me is perpetually under construction though. In Virginia it was like I was surrounded by perpetual low and mid-density residential and commercial development. I used to assume that if I modelled a Sim city game based on my daily experiences in NoVA, my citizens would leave and my game would collapse, or i’d have it destroyed by Godzilla and tornadoes before everyone could leave — no sense in delaying the inevitable.
Now back in Madison I am surrounded by high-density commerical and residential construction. The noises I hear every morning and evening are eerily familiar to the game noises. It does provide some interesting visuals as well. Just last week (the day I lost my phone) I took a picture of a Bobcat on the 5th story of a slowly-being demolished building. There are no elevators left, and yet 2 bobcats made their way up to the 5th floor and were being driven around for a purpose I could not determine. As Mike pointed out once I made clear the bobcats were the machinery types, not the large feline types, cranes can do a lot. I’m sure they can and I’m sure thats how they got up there, but its still an odd sight. I really wish they’d just hit whats left of this building (formerly 309. W. Wash) with a wrecking ball. It could satisfy anyone’s appetite for mindless destruction. Instead, they seem to be taking it down piece by piece and it’s boring and wholly unsatisfying. At least it gives me something to watch why I microwave my lunch.
we can't all be cool camera people
But it’s nice of you to try. Is that the new condos across from Metropolitan Place that they are building? Hmm…I didn’t realize they were already doing demolition there.
