Well, I realized my bus was going to come before I was ready to leave the house.
I didn’t want to drive because parking on the square is EXPENSIVE.
No way was I going to hike nearly 3 miles to work and make it in time, so I thought I’d bike.
2.7 tiny miles, right? Only a few light slopes on Broom and Gilman street, right?

Well, yah.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see I’m out of shape, but wow.. that took a lot longer than I had expected.

And I got a cramp in one of my hamstrings.
And I want a gel seat cover.
And I want to not have my feet slip on the pedals.
And I don’t like showing up to work all red in the face.

Also, damn you, damn you to hell Wisconsin and Southern.
As I’m approaching Broom street I hear the train whistle and the gates go down…
Traffic is heavy and there is no way I can run across John Nolen to beat the train. And I wait, and wait and wait.
Adam would love it, but I’m annoyed. I’m already late and getting later by the second.
I’m also annoyed because a month ago when I went for a bike ride my chain fell off and I put it back on. In the wrong spot. It is supposed to get easier when you shift down, right?
I have no idea where the chain should be, but I’m pretty sure where ever it is is the wrong damn spot.

So finally at 8:30 I arrive at work to change. My face is beet red, my hair is a disaster (I really need a haircut), and I can’t get my tights to go on easily. I suspect now that since I’ve been in air-conditioned bliss I should re-try the tights.

OK, so now let’s focus on the positives…
I’m definitely not sleepy. I’m not amped up on adrenaline, but I don’t need a nap.
The breeze off Lake Monona was nice and it was a pretty ride.
The weird leg cramp in my left hamstring walked off easily.

So, I have to ride home because there isn’t any other way I’m getting home.
Hopefully it won’t take me nearly as long to get back.
Wish me luck.
