Saturday was our 6th anniversary. After some deliberation and some outside opinions we decided to head to Flemings for our anniversary night out.
The steak was delicious, but the highlight of my meal was the salad. Spinach, portabella mushrooms, red onions, and goat cheese croutons! Delicious.
For dessert we were treated to lava cake which was also incredibly rich and delicious. I’m going to have to find a recipe for chocolate lava cake.

To end our romantic and expensive anniversary night out, we headed over to our friends’ house to visit their cat. These particular friends are out of town for a couple weeks, but they have a poor, old, lonely diabetic kitty who requires twice daily injections of insulin. After giving poor kitty his shot, I was holding his re-used needle in one hand and accidentally dropped it onto my other hand. It stuck into my thumb below the lower joint drawing a small bead of blood.

Eventually, my paranoia got the better of me and I called the on-call nurse to find out if there were any weird diseases I could acquire from a cat. Fortunately, there aren’t, but she did tell me to go get a tetanus shot within the next 3 days. Since I hadn’t had a tetanus shot since 1990, it didn’t seem like a bad idea. Sunday morning we headed over to the clinic to get my TDaP injection (thats the Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis for adults). For the second time I found myself explaining what an idiot I was dropping a used insulin syringe on myself. The doctor implied that I didn’t really need a tetanus shot
2 days later my left arm is stiff and sore. A public health nurse today tells me it’s not the T, but the P that causes the extreme stiffness in this shot. She adds that they’ve seen stiffness and pain in adults lasting up to 2 weeks with the shot.

niiiiiiiiice

I accidently stuck myself too. However, I just threw caution to the wind and decided to let it be. I’m still here and no worse for the wear. However, having up to date tetanus is never a bad thing. Lockjaw would suck.

Hey lockjaw has an upside

you can’t scream at the TV when the Packers play – and no snoring! Maybe you should stick J with a rusty needle…

Hmmmm…

My last tetanus shot was in 1997 – which means I’m due. It was before the WYSO tour to Japan. One of the requirements was that we be up to date on our immunizations and such. I got my tetanus shot in my left bicep and then had to go to an orchestra rehearsal the next day. Fun! At least it was in the left side and not the right – the left does much less moving around while playing the violin. It sounds like a different shot than yours, I was sore for maybe 2 days, but definitely not longer.
