My Old House
Recently I told the TiVo that I wanted home and garden shows.
It delivered… and then some.
I got sucked into 4 parts of a DC row-house restoration on This Old House.
Absolutely gorgeous! Stunning! Inspiring!
I have a love/hate relationship with TOH. The houses they film are breathtakingly goregous, the renovations superb… On gigantic historic gorgeous houses, owned by people with seemingly endless pocketbooks. who consult people who specialize in historic renovations.
Sure, it’s “easy” to restore a 19th century brick Italianate rowhouse to its former glory. And by easy I mean that an 1870s brick rowhouse had a former glory to be restored to. Nevermind the 200k budget and a team of experts working 16 hour days to repair every inch of the burnt out, neglected, damaged, rotting house.
Since I’m not expecting Norm Abram or Bob Vila to show up at my doorstep and help us renovate on national TV, I’ve perused a lot of websites looking for inspiration.
So far, I have no inspiration, no imagination. I’m not sure that a bungalow built in 1953 has any style to be evoked, any glory to be attained.
Send me pictures, I'll help!
Uhm… hellooo!! You KNOW I like to tell you what to do with your house.
Of course there’s charm there somewhere, and if there isn’t we can make it charming. I don’t just specialize in transitional contemporary, I like the look of other styles too… just not in my house.
Send me pictures.
Hmm...
Maybe we’ll bring some pictures (inside and out) and you can offer suggestions when we’re out in May.
Maybe you and Ryan should come and visit, eh?
The people in WI would love to see you…
