Damned Dam, Damn!

Saturday night I came in from shoveling snow and was standing at the kitchen sink looking when I noticed water, water, everywhere.

My first thought was that Adam had used the sprayer and had soaked the ledge. I wiped up a lot of water from the window sill and felt a drip. I noticed that there was also water on the middle ledge on the window. There was a lot of water there too. I wiped that up and felt another drip. I looked up and didn’t see a wet spot or hole in the ceiling. Finally I saw the source of the water — the molding above the window was leaking water like a sieve. I touched it, the wood was still solid, but the plaster behind it was squishy.

So I read the article in the CapTimes, I called Mad City Roofing and my insurance company trying to find out how much it was going to cost to fix the roof problem and the squishy, leaky wall problem and how much it was going to cost me.

It’s probably going to cost us $500 any way you look at it and we’re going to have to get our kitchen wall looked at, too. I don’t need mold and rot developing in my kitchen… eeeew.
All just in time for the holidays!

Happy Holidays! Love, Mother Nature.

Moulding...?

I got ice dams on the brain, so slap me if this is a silly question – but was this water coming in from the roof?

It would seem odd to come in from just above the window.

Our old house had crummy ventilation in the attic, so we had monster ice dams on the rain gutters- which led to water pooling on our flat roofed porch, which led to water soaking through the roof onto the porch floor.

So, I’m paranoid.

If you have no icicles on your house, I’ll shaddup. But if you’re not sure where the water started from – you might want to check the roof above that window for an ice dam.

Ok, ok, I just got your post title

…so I guess you’re saying that’s what it was. Okay, Okay I’m a dork. I just didn’t see those words in the post and like I said, I’ve got a recent ice dam experience on my mind and –

well – I’m a dork. Sue me.
