Money Well Spent
Last fall (when I was unemployed) we got a note from Kindercare attempting to guilt us into enrolling Adam in a Phonics/Learn to Read program.
I ignored it at that point, but around February we checked into it again and enrolled Adam in the 3 day a week lessons. The results have been amazing!
The past few nights I’ve opened up Word, hit Caps Lock, set the font to Arial 48 pt font and let Adam go nuts typing. He asks to play the “Letters Game on the White Screen” everytime my computer is open.
Anyhoo, Friday night he was sitting on the floor typing away when we looked down and noticed he had deliberately typed ADA and was staring at the keyboard intently. I mentioned the M key was just above the big spacebar key on the bottom. He pushed it immediately!
Then he’d delete his entire name and type it again and again! Occassionally, he’d want me to change the font color so he could type it in another color.
Very cool. Now hopefully he’ll start recognizing more words than just his name and can learn to read early! Wouldn’t that be awesome?
Very cool!
I remember my parents saying that they let me into kindergarten when I was 4 because I could spell my whole name. I don’t know if that’s a joke or not. It IS a whopper to spell when you’re 4.
That’s great that Adam is learning letters. And on a computer! I don’t think my family had a computer until I was 7 or 8. I just can’t imagine.
