L'inverno est arrivé

It snowed on Friday — we got a decent amount of snow around here to actually cover up the grass and leaves and make it look like winter. It’s… nice and wintery.

Yesterday while Mike was off gaming I took Adam to Olin Park (twice!) to see the Festival of Lights and then we went to Target and ToysRUs in search of a sled and kid-sized snow shovel. Despite the fact that the Subaru was reporting to me a frigid 11F, we had a great time. The lights were pretty and Adam was excited about this sledding thing. I didn’t know how to explain what sledding was so I looked it up on YouTube so he could get the idea. I can’t tell if that’s sad or an appropriate use of modern technology to solve small problems. Besides — he enjoyed earlier the squirrel cam videos on YouTube, why not sledding, too?

This afternoon we walked down Lakeside to apartment building with the big hill in front. At first he wanted to go home until I found a good spot where he could gain some momentum and actually slide down the hill. We also made snow angels. He must have learned that in daycare because he made his own before I even worked up the nerve to lie down in the snow.

It was cold, but it was fun and the coffee shop on Lakeside is awesome.
I’m looking forward to a few more of these snowy outings this winter, it feels like he’s actually getting the sort of childhood kids may actually remember.

Next up: Preparing for Christmas. 3 weeks until Christmas eve!
aaaaaaaaagggggghh!
